UNDERWATER CLOUDS
Underwater clouds are fleeting formations of bubbles that rise to the surface of the ocean, but not before gracefully painting unique clouds-like shapes at the base of a wave. I discovered these beautiful forms while surfing after a storm in 2018. After a dive off my surfboard, I was pulled into the underbelly of a wave. Just as I held onto my breath to rise, I looked up to find myself in the midst of the effervescent clouds. The works were created originally in chalk pastel with hand-pressed pigment from France and later have been reproduced in oil paint on canvas

MISOGI
Water has long served as a teacher for my biggest questions. Misogi formalizes this by requiring what most people avoid: standing beneath a waterfall's cold, relentless cascade. The practice is in the confrontation, choosing to face discomfort instead of fleeing it. The waterfall teaches through force what philosophy cannot: that life's difficulties aren't meant to be conquered or escaped, but metabolized.
In the Shinto tradition, misogi is the practice of standing beneath waterfalls to purify body and spirit. I work within this framework through recognition of something universal: transformation requires surrender. These waterfalls span from California, Iceland, Switzerland, Costa Rica, but their lesson remains singular.
